Network Devices
REPEATER
1. It boosts/amplifies data signals.2. It is also known as booster/amplifier.
3. It works at Physical Layer of OSI Reference model.
4. It helps to increase the geographical area of network i.e. LAN.
5. It uses different media as Eathernet cable and fiber cable.
BRIDGE
1. It works at Data Link Layer of OSI Reference model.2. It isolates network by MAC address.
3. It manage traffic by filtering packets.
4. It renders one MAC protocol into another
5. It improves network bandwidth by reducing the unnecessary data traffic.
SWITCH
1. It incorporates bridge features.2. It connectes devices or networks and filter, forward, and flood frames.
3. It works at the Data Link Layer of OSI Reference model.
4. It increases throughput.
HUB
1. HUB is used for multiple incoming connection with multiple outgoing connection.2. It is also known as multi-port repeater.
3. It operates at Physical Layer.
ROUTER
1. It connects two devices at Network Layer of OSI Reference model.2.Routers are both Hardware and Software.
3. It works at Network Layer of OSI Reference model.
4. Router knows only Network Layer protocol e.g. Novell's IPX, Unix's IP, Apple's DDP, XNS etc.
5. Some Routing Protocols are- IRP, IGRP and OSPF etc.
GATEWAY
1. It is used to connect totally dissimilar networks.2. It works at Network Layer and above layers.
3. It performs protocol conversion for all 7 layers of OSI reference model.
MODEM
1. MODEM stands for modulation and demodulation.2. This device is used to convert digital signal into analog signal and vice versa.
3. MODEM connects computer system with the telephone lines.
